Nau mai haere mai to Te Hana Te Ao Marama, for a celebration of kaimoana, kōrero, kapa haka and kaitiakitanga in a welcoming marae setting.
With a focus on local stories and local food sourced from the nearby Kaipara Harbour, manuhiri will hear korero about the Southern Hemisphere’s largest harbour and its importance as a seafood basket that must be protected if it is to flourish.
Experience first-hand the Māori values of:
Manaakitanga – showing, respect, generosity and care for the people, their whanau and communities. Care and respect of the stories, of the people and its land & sea
Whakawhanaungatanga – establishing relationships to relate well with our communities and visitors
Kaitiakitanga – providing guardianship/stewardship for the surrounding land and sea
With these values we look to bring our urban and rural communities together in this showcase of cultural vitality.
Guests will experience a traditional Marae pōwhiri welcome, invited to explore our authentic Māori village via a guided tour, watch and hear kapa haka, waiata and other cultural exchanges. This lively no-waste event will be held in the marae’s wharekai where a range of delicious seafood kai will be served. This is a day to be enjoyed with both families and friends.
We look forward to welcoming you. Ka kite anō
